Free crochet pattern for a stitch combination out of HDC, DC and the Grit stitch

Hello to all the lovely people,

when you´re here it means you found me through my post on my Instagram feed. I just finished a baby blanket a few days ago with a combination of my there most favourite crochet stitches.

The HDC = Half Double Crochet

The DC = Double Crochet

And the Grit Stitch (single and double crochet)

It sounds complicated, but it´s not. After you memorized two rows of the main pattern, you´re good to go. Also very beginner friendly and as I´m a visual learner myself, i made pictures of each step from the written instruction.

I bet there is a name out there for the combination of the stitches and I´m not inventing a new wheel or anything but for the moment being i would love to call it the Beabrunette Stitch and it would be lovely, if you´re using this stitch and you´re going to post the pictures of it on your Instagram feed to use also the hashtag #beabrunettefreecrochetstitch or tag me in the picture.

In the next few weeks i will try to post more free patterns you can try out as i will try them out for the first time. My intention into make a lot of same size squares from different crochet stitches to form someday a good sized blanket. But thats just me, feel free to create anything from the free stitches you want, like scarfs, blankets, sweaters or cardigans. I would also love to see pictures from your creations.

Free patterns to inspire all wooly crafters around the world. I want to spread creativity and infect you with ideas and colors and just to create something.

Thank you!

Sending some creative love to you,
Beatrice

Instructions: (US terms)

Gauge:

As i´m a free spirit and always start my knit or crochet projects without a gauge i can hardly say something about this for this stitch. (Yes, i never make a swatch and it always works for me.)#
Except, go one hook smaller than it is written on the banderole of the yarn you´re using. worked for me fine as I crochet or knit very loosely. If you knit or crochet tight, than you should use the hook size written on the banderole or maybe bigger. For me the row with the Grit Stitch always turned out nicer using a smaller hook. The yarn in the picture suggest a 5 mm hook and I´m using a 4 mm hook.
For the blanket i made i used a bit bigger hook than suggested so the blanket would be nice and fluffy and not to stiff.

The pattern:

For this you have to crochet a multiple of 3. Or you should be able to divide the amount of stitches you crochet through 3. If this makes sense. In order to get a nice sized square i chained 33 because you will loose 3 stitches of the chained row for your first crochet row of this pattern. So if you chain 27 you will crochet with 24 stitches in total. 30 chained stitches will be 27 and 33 chained stitches will be 30 and so on... I think you got the idea.

The pattern will be worked back and fourth and this means you will have to turn your work as you go a long with the pattern.

R1: Chain desired number of stitches, i chained 30.

R2: Skip the first three stitches and HDC into the next chain and all chains across until the end of the row until the end. chain 1 and turn.

R3: Now you will crochet 2 DC in the first stitch from the last row. Not the turning chain, no into the first stitch. Repeat from * until 3 stitches before end of the row. *skip 2 stitches, in the third stitch you will crochet a single and two Double crochet stitches*. When you have reached the last three stitches you will skip two stitches and make a single crochet stitch in the top of the turning chain. Chain 3 and turn work.

R4: This row will only contain of DC. Double crochet into all stitches as they appear until the end of the row. Chain one and turn.

Until you reach your desired length in your project, you will repeat Row 3 and Row 4.

Hope you have as much fun as i had and i can´t wait to see your pictures on Instagram. :)
